My kids and I in Jerusalem

My kids, Loren and Natalie arrived in Israel yesterday afternoon.   Today we ventured out.   First stop, getting coffee at a local bakery/ coffee shop.  Next, taking the bus!  Not too difficult, there were only 2 bus routes to choose from.  Naturally, we got on the wrong one!  Thanks to Loren, who thought to ask, we got off that bus about 2 blocks later and got onto the right bus, destination- the central bus station in Jerusalem...We got our cell phones, exchanged money, and decided we wanted to visit Ben Yehuda St....ok, so now what do we want to do?  Walk, take another bus?  OK, which bus?  We asked someone who suggested that we take the train!!!  WOW, the new train.  So, we found the train and learned all about getting our tickets.  All these NEW tasks!!!  It felt so great to learn how to get around!
We got off the train near what we thought to be Ben Yehuda.  Well, we actually got off at the shuk!  (outdoor market)....OMG!  I discovered something I never knew about my adorable, petite, daughter...she is a FOODIE!  (I am also, but I know that about me!)

My kids had so much fun photographing all the beautiful displays of gorgeous fruits, vegetables, olives, nuts, fresh fish, challah breads...and then we discovered the fresh halavah!!!  OK, could NOT get past that without having to sample a couple different flavors.  We decided on the chocolate/ white chocolate halavah.   Yummm!  Just HAD to take some home.

                                                          Mmmmmm....halavah!

Next stop...LUNCH!  All that looking at food made us hungry !!   We found a fun hole-in-the-wall falafel joint (aren't all falafel joints little hole-in-the-walls??)...and after lunch what was next? Walking through  Ben Yehuda, and taking the train to just outside the Old City to pray at the Kotel (Western Wall).  My kids are SO cool!  They know their mom loves to pray there, so they made sure we went...and then...home!  Whew, what a great, adventuresome day!!
